DELICIOUS Homemade Burger For My Cheat Day Meal with Saltena Story!

I think everyone wants to be healthy all the time, and they all want to keep their fitness at its best for the rest of their lives. Frankly, as I got older, I started to worry about the calories in the foods I eat and the foods I consume.

And I am realizing once again the importance of exercise in parallel to keep my physical strength at its best.

I realize that my once good metabolism is also declining as I get older. So I try to do handstand, jump rope, push-ups and sit-ups at home in a few minutes or more as frequently as possible, but it’s never easy.

As we know, workout schedules don’t always go the way we think, and to make matters worse, we often end up eating more for a variety of reasons and excuses.

So, after the Covid-19 Outbreak, I do more yoga and practice guitar to start over, trying to keep my days busy other than my 9 to 6 full-time work.

Also, I try to maintain or increase my stamina by going to the indoor rock climbing wall, but it’s not easy to do all these activities consistently. ????

Sometimes, when I look back on my South American travels in my 20s and early 30s, I laugh as I think about eating all kinds of greasy food sold by locals cheaply on the street. The fact that it was super cheap, and I guess I just ate it all because I was a poor traveler back then. At that time, I was still hungry even though I ate high-calorie, fried and oily food all day.

Also, one of the reasons was that I had to carry a heavy backpack every day and walk at least 10 kilometers a day, and hitchhiking each time to save on transportation costs. So at that time, it was obvious that my stamina could be maintained at its best without thinking about the calories of the foods I ate at all. Haha!

For example, once, when I crossed over from Bolivia into Argentina in the north, there was a city called Salta, which was quite large, and I went to a very famous and very large local market in that city.

There, savory snacks called empanadas are sold just as they are all over South America. The people of Salta, however, prefer to call them Salteña, after their city, instead of empanadas.

But when I was traveling in Bolivia, I started hearing that the name Salteña came from Bolivia first. So I’m not sure which one is more true, and it doesn’t really matter to me.

Anyway, regardless of whether it was named after the city of Salta, the Salteñas I had in Salta were more delicious than those that I had tried in Boliva.

In Bolivia they were mostly deep fried and contained a lot of mashed potato, making it difficult to eat more than two at a time.

In Argentina, on the other hand, they are stuffed with various meats and cheeses and then baked in an oven. So personally, I think I can eat a lot of this. And there were times when I ate a lot. haha!

I recall that the Salteñas sold at the market in Salta were quite expensive, and the locals tended to be them by the basket to share with their friends and family. It looked like almost one dozen to two dozen.

At the time, in Sucre, a small city in Bolivia, I met a Korean female backpacker Ji-Hye, and we traveled together for several weeks.

So after that we crossed the Argentine border through the famous mining town of Potosi and the small barren desert town of Tupiza, Bolivia.????????????

And we went on a different route from Mendoza, a city located in central Argentina.

In Salta, we stopped at the busiest Salteña restaurant in the market, looking at prices for 12 or 6, and pondering for a moment which one to choose.

Then we got hungry and realized that after we left this place we might never eat Salteña of the same quality again, we ended up ordering 12 of them.

Each Salteña shops in the market has slightly different prices for Salteña, depending on the filling and size.

In the end we ordered a dozen which included 6 pieces of minced beef and cheese and 6 pieces of chicken, cheese and mushrooms. So, the two of us had two flavors, three each, for a total of six.

Back then we had our Salteña party time like the locals. And we drank a few cold local beers, and most of all, I can still vividly remember how delicious the hot Salteña was right out of the oven. We left the city with a bit of regret that we never had the opportunity to eat such a delicious Salteña again. And at the time, we didn’t even think about the calories of Salteña, which we enjoyed so much at once.

Thinking about it now as I write this blog, I would imagine that a single Salteña must contain a good 400 calories or so.

Then, I ate a total of 6 Salteña, so I consumed 2400 calories by myself. Plus, we drank two bottles of beer each, so at least two bottles adds about 300 calories. If so, arithmetic, one person consumed 2700 calories at least while eating Salteña.

As we all know, if the recommended daily calorie intake for women is 2000 calories, then I am really surprised that at that time we were consuming more than the recommended daily calorie intake for one meal.

Thanks to a trip to South America in 2009, I am writing about one of my favorite cheap and high calorie foods, salteña (empanada), which I ate while traveling in Argentina and Bolivia.

But ironically, hmm… now my blog with the title of burger is getting longer than I thought, but I honestly miss the delicious salteña which makes me nostalgic!????

So let’s move on to today’s high-calorie burger recipe story, shall we????? Before talking about burger recipes, it’s true that I really like burgers more than other fast food items. So I can’t stop thinking about having a burger on my cheat day. So I also watch videos of the insanely crazy high-calorie burger cheat day challenge on YouTube.

These days, there are tons of videos of eating all kinds of fast food consumed on cheat day or high-calorie junk food challenge in a short time on YouTube. For example, the YouTubers create video content with extremely unhealthy, high-calorie foods, the so-called junk food that we are all familiar with. Plus, to a real surprise, they consume almost 20,000 calories of junk food per day.????

Regardless of whether it is true or not, viewers are amazed at how that is possible and how the creators maintain their stamina and not gain weight.????

So many subscribers, including myself, watch the videos for indirect satisfaction. In particular, wouldn’t you enjoy the amazing high-calorie fast food, especially burgers, pizzas, hot dogs, ice cream, biscuits, cakes, burritos, tacos, and donuts, and many other food-related challenge contents!

Most of us will never be able to eat like that, but there are always times when we crave those kinds of fast food. Am I the only one who wishes to be able to eat like them without worrying about calories or health at that time?????

In fact, no matter how much I like burgers, the thought of eating so much junk food at once makes me gain weight or harm my health. So I know that consuming 20,000 calories by food challenge creators on YouTube is realistically impossible in my lifetime. I call myself a so-called fit foodie, and no matter how much I enjoy going for all-you-can-eat buffet restaurants and all kinds of street foods, I won’t be able to consume those high-calorie foods that much.

So I can’t help but be content to see the world’s most junk, crazy, high-calorie foods just watching them eat. Maybe I can only imagine doing a food challenge like this in my dreams. Or if someone offered me a million dollars, I wonder if I would even do it. LOL! ????

So today, I’m going to try to quench my junk food cravings through burgers I make myself. This is a very simple burger recipe, and the best thing about making burgers at home is that you can add as many vegetables as you want.
This is because, when I go to any famous fast food chain such as Burger King, McDonald’s, or KFC, there are times when I feel little disappointed because there are no or too few vegetables or pickles in the burger.

Now, when I made the burger, I only had cabbage and tomatoes at home, so I only used two vegetables, but it was enough. Aside from vegetables, one of the most important things about a burger is the sauce, and I especially love mustard. So I put a lot of mustard on almost every layer and spread tomato ketchup on top of the vegetables.

And I put a fried egg and a slice of cheese on top of the vegetables. Of course, speaking of burgers, vegetables and sauce are also important, but I think the really highlight ingredient is the meat patty, which is the main ingredient in burgers unless we are vegetarians. The taste and texture from the meat maximize the flavor of the burger. I usually like beef patties, so whenever I go to a fast food restaurant, I usually order a beef burger variations. But today I decided to make a burger with frozen meat chicken patties. So, I defrosted the Tesco brand chicken patty I bought from Tesco and cook it in a frying pan.

The problem was that the two chicken patties I had defrosted were stuck and did not come off. So, I cooked the two attached patties as they are, so it was quite thick, so I had to spend time to cook it properly. And after about 15 minutes, I checked that it was cooked, and I cut the cooked patties in half with a wooden spatula and stacked the meat patties in two layers. In the end, my finished burger was well over 15 centimeters tall. So I poked a wooden skewer deep into the center so that the pretty gigantic burger could stand on its own. LOL! ????

It’s just like watching the Tower Burger in the Burger Challenge video on YouTube. The cheese in contact with the hot egg has already melted, making the burger so delicious. My finished homemade burger contains a lot of cabbage, so the overall burger looks huge. In the end, I think it was nice to be able to satisfy my intentions of the concept of high calorie fast food in a less junk and healthy way with one meal.
For those who like burgers, like me, how about eating a healthy and delicious burger using various healthy ingredients at home and trying to satisfy burger cravings!????

Well, in my next blog I will be writing about a fairly inexpensive and less junk burger item that you can try at several global fast food chains in Malaysia. Happy eating!????
