The cheapest US$10 Pakistani buffet in Malaysia

It’s been a while since I’ve written a blog post with my favorite food, kebab, so I can’t control my mouth watering. In addition, it is a buffet where you can enjoy a lot of delicious kebabs and curry dishes, as well as juicy and flavorful meat dishes. Importantly, this buffet is a Pakistani BBQ buffet. If you like Pakistani food like me, this is a restaurant you have heard of or tried before. It is called “bar.B.Q tonight” or simply “bbq tonight”.

I visited this place about two years ago and I remember when the pandemic just started due to the covid-19. And I finally came back here again after 2 years with my husband and 5 year old son. So I was even more excited that day and had high expectations for kebab meat.

In fact, whenever we go to downtown Kuala Lumpur, we try to go to Bar.b.q tonight for a weekend buffet, but we ended up going somewhere else, or because we are already full, we couldn’t reschedule.

On our visit, I looked up their restaurant buffet schedule on Facebook, but couldn’t find it. So I called the restaurant and checked it out, and they say that they are no longer open for lunch on weekends and that the buffet is only open on Saturday evenings from 6pm to 10pm. This means the buffet is not available on Sunday evenings.

It also means that at other times customers can only order individual dishes from the menu. Another thing, I noticed that the buffet price has gone up a bit compared to before. Two years ago the adult price for the dinner buffet was RM40, but now it has increased to RM45 per person. To make it more clear, it would be about RM52 per person including taxes such as 10% service charge and 6% sales tax.

I remember that the building called ‘Menara Weld’, where the Pakistani restaurant ‘Bar.B.Q Tonight’ is located, occupied more than 50% of the various stores in the past. Then, due to the pandemic, the shopping mall with few people are now even more closed and noticeably empty. Anyway, whether the mall was crowded or not, we didn’t care. I made a reservation at 6pm on a Saturday and arrived in a good mood to eat kebabs with no time limit.

What’s more, parking in the underground car park couldn’t be easier in this bustling city of Kuala Lumpur. That said, there are very few cars parked in this mall. Even on the weekend, we parked for 3 hours for RM2 of the flat price. It it true that parking in other bustling malls costs almost five times more, at least on weekends.

With my husband and son in front, I took the escalator to the second floor, and as soon as I turned right, I saw the restaurant we were heading to. The reason why it is so obvious is that it is also a restaurant that opens alone on the second floor. Even though the restaurant itself is a bit dimly lit, it immediately catches the eye. Even so, the lights that illuminate the dining hall just enough for dinners.

And best of all, to the left of the restaurant’s entrance, a dozen or so shiny circular silver covers line up to let hungry guests know that buffet time is approaching.

And around the right pillar of the entrance, there are two colorful salad bowls, five kinds of dipping sauces, one soup (mushroom chicken), and two desserts.

One is a sweetened cream mixed with fruit and jelly.

And the other is the traditional Pakistani dessert “Firni”, a sweet pudding from northern India and Pakistan made from basmati rice, milk, nuts and sugar and flavored with cardamom powder, saffron or rose water.

So basically, if you’ve eaten Indian rice pudding, also called “kheer”, you can think of Firni as a similar dessert.

Finally, The buffet also includes drinks, and various carbonated drinks and water are offered. I noticed at a glance that the order in which the buffet food was listed two years ago and now is almost the same.

Let’s talk about main course dishes. Starting from the left end of the buffet table, there are clean, wide plates, spoons and forks.

The very first dish is the chicken biryani, everyone’s favourite.

Then, ground lamb called lamb keema,

Pakistani beef stew, chicken karahi, aloo (potato) curry,

naan bread, daal(lentel) curry,

channa(chickpeas) curry, chicken bihari boti,

chicken kebab, etc. are freshly cooked and laid out.

chicken kebabs

Honestly, they are prepared so deliciously that you cannot miss any single dish. If it weren’t for a limited stomach problem, we’d spend a long time savoring these foods until the restaurant closes, since buffet times are unlimited.

In addition to the smell and aroma of chicken kebabs, it is my dream to enjoy juicy meat seasoned with well-mixed herbs, wrapped in freshly baked naan bread and drizzled with yogurt.

I started off quite a bit with lamb keema, chickpea curry, dal curry and beef stew with chicken biryani, where the chicken was very tender and full of flavor.

For me, whenever I go to a North Indian or Pakistani restaurant, kebabs are my go-to dish. To be honest, I can easily eat about ten kebabs by myself. If money is not an issue, I would be able to eat without stopping.

That said, I never get tired of kebabs. In particular, in addition to the smell and aroma of chicken kebabs here, it is a dream to eat juicy meat seasoned with finely mixed herbs, wrapped in freshly baked naan bread and drizzled with plain yogurt. Yum yum!

After all, this BBQ restaurant is the perfect place for a delicious kebab buffet! So, if you want to try authentic Pakistani food such as kebabs, biryani and karai, you shouldn’t miss this place.

This is my second visit there with my family, and it’s a place I don’t want to share with others, but eventually, if people continue to go to the restaurant to eat delicious authentic Pakistani food, the restaurant buffet business will be able to keep up. So it’s a win-win for everyone including me.

That day, I had several delicious Pakistani chicken kebabs and naan. The funny thing is that my husband looked at me and told me to stop eating.

Since my stomach was full of very meaty food, it was a day when my mouth was full of the savory, oily, and deliciously fragrant taste of meat. So, I needed a few more chewing gums to offset my oily mouth.

One more thing I particularly remember is that when we went, two families from Pakistan had their children’s joint birthday party at once.

So, for the children’s birthday, the restaurant prepared bright and cute decorations and banners. So, thanks to their lively party theme, despite the restaurant atmosphere is generally quite dim, but it was rather bright that day.
